Who is FIVE STAR? 

FIVE STAR Speakers & Trainers is one of the country’s premiere speaker’s bureau’s that represents more than 18,000 professional speakers, trainers, entertainers, celebrities, facilitators, business consultants, train-the-trainer experts, executive coaches and athletes. Since 1988 and more than 17,000 successful events later, we have impacted business in a variety of ways. And during that time, we have grown into one of the largest and most respected bureaus in the industry.

What does it cost to work with FIVE STAR? 

Almost 100% of the time, it costs you nothing!  We work for you and our speaker’s pay us.  

How is FIVE STAR different from other bureaus? 

In the past 12 months, we have spent more than 4,000 hours previewing speakers, and booked more than 1,000 events for speakers, trainers, entertainers and celebrities.  In FIVE STAR history, we have booked more than 17,000 events!  Our excellent staff has an average of nearly 13 years of experience.  In addition, we have hosted more than 135 FIVE STAR sponsored events, so we understand what it takes to do what you do!

Does FIVE STAR book entertainers?

Can we work with FIVE STAR even if the speakers we’re interest in are exclusive with another bureau?

Yes. We have co-brokering arrangements with all the major exclusive agents and have enjoyed a very positive, long-term relationship with each of them. And even when we co-broker, there is no additional cost to our clients.

Are all the speakers represented by FIVE STAR highlighted on your website?

What value do you bring?

You leverage our time, our knowledge and our experience to make you the hero of your event!   We have coordinated more than 17,000 events since 1988, so we know who works well with your group…and who doesn’t! The odds of your speaker doing poorly when we’re involved are dramatically decreased. Additionally, if the presenter cancels due to sickness, travel problems, or an unexpected emergency, we will quickly find you a substitution that will meet your needs, even at the very last minute. 

Can FIVE STAR help me with training initiatives?   

Yes.  We have worked with countless Fortune 2000 governmental agencies, not-for-profits and growing companies offering training programs on a variety of subjects including business development, communication skills, facilitation of technical training, presentation skills, strategic marketing and a huge list of other subjects.

Can FIVE STAR help me secure books or additional products for my event? 

Yes. Frequently we have been designated as official resellers of materials and can sometimes provide a better discount. Ask us what you’re looking for and we’ll let you know if we can deliver value to you in the process. 

Can we record the speaker’s presentation?

Most speakers will allow you to record the presentation for archival purposes. If you are interested in using the presentation for a specific purpose, the speaker will typically expect to be paid an additional fee. This should be agreed to well in advance of the program.

In addition to the fee, what other expenses will I incur when hiring a speaker, trainer or celebrity? 

The standard practice is for the client to cover roundtrip airfare, ground transportation, lodging, meals and tips. This varies, so confirm the requirements with whomever you are considering for your event.

How can I find speakers who live close to our convention location?

With a database of more than 18,000 speakers, trainers, entertainers, celebrities and athletes, we have plenty to choose from in all major convention cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Seattle, Phoenix, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, St. Louis, Kansas City, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Orlando, Miami and Atlanta. How do speakers establish their fees?

Speakers establish fees based on their track record, expertise/credibility and celebrity level.  For example, if someone is regionally known, their fee is typically $7,500 plus expenses. If they are nationally known (not famous), their fees can range from $10-25,000 plus expenses. Celebrities can charge between $25,000 - $500,000 for a single appearance, plus first-class expenses.  The typical business speaker charges in the range of $10,000 - $25,000.

What do the CSP and CPAE designations mean?

·  CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) - The highest earned designation presented by the National Speakers Association (NSA). It recognizes a commitment to ongoing education, proven speaking experience, and ethical behavior. It is awarded to individuals who have completed a comprehensive application process and met the criteria set by NSA.

·  CPAE (Council of Peers Award for Excellence) - The CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame™ is an award for platform excellence. Selections, which are based on nominations made by the current CPAEs, are limited to five each year.

Can I get a speaker for less if I call them directly? 

 The savings we can offer dramatically outweigh the savings a client might see if they hired a speaker directly. In our experience, less than 5% of the time a speaker offers a better deal with a client than they would working through a bureau. For any speaker who has an interest in being represented by bureaus, they will maintain fee integrity. We have significant leverage because of our ability to book a speaker many times a year.  Therefore, a speaker is more willing to work with us when necessary.

Does it cost more for a longer presentation or scheduled event?

In most instances, yes. Speaker fees are typically broken down as follows:

• Keynote (60-90 minutes) - $10,000 plus expenses

• Up to 4 hours - $12,500 plus expenses

• 4-8 hours - $15,000 plus expenses

For celebrities and athletes, a keynote presentation may be one fee, while a “meet & greet" or a “photo-op" may require additional fees.
