CHARITIES
FIVE Press is an active participant in our community locally and globally. As such, we are involved in two charities, each of whom benefits from every book we publish. 1% of all proceeds go towards these charities.
A local organization,Higher MPact was built to bring aid to high-risk youth in our inner city. The founder, Tyrone Flowers, has been acknowledged at the White House for his incredible efforts at turning wayward youth into productive citizens in our community.
Tyrone has an amazing story, too. Flowers was born to teenage parents who could not raise him. He spent his childhood being shuffled between foster homes, detention centers, reform schools, and state youth facilities. Labeled “beyond parental control” at age seven, he was also diagnosed with behavior problems and learning disorders. Service providers saw no hope for his future.
He overcame these problems to become a star basketball player with offers to play college basketball. Just two weeks before his high school graduation, he was shot by one of his teammates and left paralyzed. He chose to fight back with his mind, ultimately gaining his JD from the University of Missouri. Tyrone brings hope to the kids around him and his foundation is saving lives.
