Karyn Ruth White

Karyn Ruth White has been encouraging people to laugh for over 20 years and she’s not done yet!  Using clean, connecting humor, Karyn Ruth is a unique blend of motivator, philosopher and stand-up comedian. She helps people think better thoughts, gain a sense of personal control over stress and use humor powerfully.

Her wildly popular keynote programs Laughing In The Face of Stress©, The Six Secrets To Staying Miserable© and Does Somebody Need To Be Changed? © continue to help organizations laugh uproariously, energize morale and send the heaviness of stress packing.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from the University of New Hampshire, Karyn Ruth thrilled her parents by announcing that she planned to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian. (She can still hear the screaming.) She traveled the United States as a professional comedy vagabond for over a decade headlining comedy clubs and concert halls. She opened for acts such as Jerry Seinfeld, Rodney Dangerfield, and The Doobie Brothers.  One of her proudest moments was as a recurring opening act for David Cassidy’s “comeback tour”.  She crafted a hilarious 30-minute comedy routine all about Keith Partridge and his T.V. family. The audience roared, but Mr. Cassidy’s manager wasn’t as thrilled. He said: “Miss White you are very funny but Mr. Cassidy is really trying to forget the whole Partridge Family era.” Hey, aren’t we all?   Undaunted, Karyn Ruth went on to be featured on The Comedy Channel and Comedy Central, and has executive produced a series of popular comedy specials featuring all-female talent called Hersterics©.

In 1991 after a decade as a professional comedian Karyn Ruth decided to alchemize her gift for inspiring laughter and bring it into the eagerly awaiting arid world of Motivational Speaking. Audiences ate it up! Her current comedy special Laughing In The Face Of Stress© has consistently aired over the past five years on Colorado Public Television.

After 20 years in the world of comedy performing and professional speaking Karyn Ruth decided she had earned a “self-appointed” Masters Degree in Humor from the University of “Been There, Done That.” A proud, proud moment!

As the proud owner of Laugh and Learn Productions she helps people work and live with less stress and more joy. She is the co-author of the book Your Seventh Sense, How to Think Like A Comedian©, a book helping people incorporate mind techniques used by professional comedy performers to help create perspective and laughter from everyday experience.

She has been featured in The Denver Business Journal, and The Denver Post and has appeared as a humor expert on Denver’s Channel 7 (KMGH – ABC) and Channel 9 (KUSA – NBC).

99% of Karyn Ruth’s corporate clients keep coming back for more! Her clients include IBM, Microsoft, Nextel, Lockheed Martin, Xcel Energy, CH2M Hill, The International Customer Service Association, Regis University, TIAA-CREF, Time Warner Cable and McDonalds.

Karyn Ruth also uses the gift of laughter in her work with young adults, helping them to believe in themselves and cherish their gifts.  She travels the college circuit performing her hilarious program “How Not to Go Spastic While Being Scholastic.© After all, Karyn Ruth believes that happy, self-confident children have the best chance of becoming happy, self-confident and highly productive adults. Wouldn’t you agree?

MOST REQUESTED TOPICS:
Laughing In the Face of Stress©
We have become a society of over-worked, over-stressed, under-joyed “groan-ups.”  We’re plagued with high-blood pressure, early signs of heart disease, migraines and a myriad of stress-related illnesses.  We’re losing sleep, missing work, having trouble concentrating and just plain feeling miserable.  According to The American Institute of Stress, job stress cost U.S. Industry over $300 billion dollars last year. Did you know that research has shown that one good laugh can relieve up to 15 minutes of stress-related tension in the human body?  During this program we will take a lively look at some specific ways in which we contribute to our own stress levels.  We will laugh while we learn some everyday tools for reducing and managing our stress.  Better thoughts help us to gain better control of the attitudes we bring to work and life.

Does Somebody Need to Be Changed?©
SOMETHING STINKS AND I THINK IT’S CHANGE! They moved my cheese but luckily I still have my whine. They say the only constant is change, I say the only constant is annoyance. Why do they have to keep changing everything?  Just when I finally figure out what I’m doing, they go and change it.  Now what?  What’s next? How will this affect me? Why are they doing this to me? I can’t keep up with all these changes! Fear of change can paralyze an organization and it’s people.  Facing change can be unsettling because we feel as though we are out of control.  Learning to walk was hard too, but we didn’t say, “Ah forget it, I’ll just stay here on the floor, it’s easier.”  Bolstering our courage, patience, humor and optimism during times of change is one of our greatest challenges. In this high-spirited program, we will laugh at our reactions to change.  By laughing at our fears, and ourselves we begin the process of understanding and acceptance, paving the way for positive change. Sometimes the key to success is learning to enjoy the curves life throws at you. This program has been well received during times of peak change by organizations such as Xcel Energy, TIAA-Cref, General Mills, and Regis University.

Desperately Seeking Service©
Take a hilarious journey through the jungle of what passes as acceptable service in this country. Amid the laughter will be sprinkled some foundational teaching points on delivering superior service.  Ageless wisdom like “Win The Customer, Not The Argument”, “Don’t Take It Personally” and “Who Says The Customer Is Always Right?” This program has been rated “Excellent” by the International Customer Service Association. Guaranteed to be the least painful Customer Service Program you’ve ever attended!

The Six Secrets To Staying Miserable©
Learn how to avoid happiness like the plague, perfect the art of ignoring a compliment, reinforce negative thinking, see failure as the norm and success as a fluke. This session will provide you with six sure-fire ways to achieve misery in your own life and keep it there! This humorous tongue-in-cheek approach is designed to encourage us to laugh at how we sometimes “get in our own way.” Through laughter, we gain insight into some of our self-imposed barriers and become better equipped to gain control over these limiting behaviors in the future.

Kiss My Botox©
Remember wearing jeans so tight that you had to lie down to get into them?  Do you secretly dream of having buns of steel while in reality they look more like buns of steel wool?  Are your thighs the only things at work that haven’t been downsized? As women we drive ourselves nuts trying to cook like Martha Stewart, look like Cindy Crawford, and succeed like Oprah Winfrey…and we wonder why we feel stressed! Well, life’s not perfect, and neither are we.  But that’s never stopped us from trying!  Laugh ‘til you cry as we poke fun at perfectionism, our need for it, our belief in it and our hilarious attempts to attain it.
