He is certified by both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Anesthesiology.  Dr. Roizen is 60 calendar years of age, but his RealAge is 41.2.

Dr. Roizen is past chairman of a Food and Drug Administration advisory committee and a former editor for six medical journals.  He has published more than 155 peer-reviewed scientific papers, one-hundred textbook chapters, thirty editorials, and four medical books, including a medical Best-seller. He has also received twelve U.S. patents and several foreign patents.

After nine years on the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, he started and served as Medical Director of the Chicago Program for Executive Health.  He also chaired the top-10-rated department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Chicago.  He then became Dean at the School of Medicine, and Vice President for Biomedical Sciences at SUNY Upstate and served as CEO of the Biotechnology Research Corporation of Central New York.  In June 2005, he joined Cleveland Clinic as Chairman of the Division of Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, and Comprehensive Pain Management.

His first general audience book, RealAge: Are You as Young as You Can Be? (HarperCollins Publishers) became a New York Times #1 Best-seller and was awarded the Best Wellness Book of 1999 by the Books for a Better Life Awards. This book has been translated into more than 20 languages and was #1 in four other countries.  His follow-up, The RealAge Diet: Make Yourself Younger with What You Eat (HarperCollins), co-authored with Dr. John La Puma, also became a New York Times Best-seller in April 2001.  His third book was Cooking the RealAge Way (Harper Collins), also with Dr. La Puma, and he published an update to the initial RealAge book, The RealAge Makeover (HarperCollins) in 2004. His most recent books are The RealAge Workout (Collins), YOU: The Smart Patient (Free Press) and YOU: The Owner’s Manual (Collins), the latter two written with Dr. Mehmet Oz.

YOU: The Owner’s Manual is also a New York Times best-selling book and according to Amazon was the second best selling book (behind Harry Potter) for the year of 2005.  It is available in 29 languages, and the official website for the “YOU” book series is hosted at RealAge.com.
